Considering moving a building?

What does it cost to move a building?

Every building is unique and requires a customized plan to complete a succesful move. The biggest factors when determining cost are:

  • Dimensions (width, length and height)

  • Location and destination

  • Structure type and layout

One of the biggest benefits of moving a structure instead of building new is the cost-effectiveness. You save the costs of design, new materials, and labor when you move a pre-existing structure.

If you send us a few pictures and the dimensions of your building, we can provide a preliminary estimate for what it will cost to move.

Are there height restrictions when moving a building?

  • If the height of your load is more than 5.3 metres (17.4 feet), then you will need to fill out a High Load Move Request Form with ATCO or your local power company. They will help plan the safest and most efficient route. If needed, they will escort the move and lift or drop power lines.

  • Our building-moving rigging (beams and dollies) adds at minimum 1m of height to the overall height of the building.

The customer is responsible for obtaining permits from ATCO and will pay them directly for any services required during your move.

Are there any other considerations when moving a building?

  • Basement foundations require beam pockets to be added during construction to allow removal of our beams once the building has been placed on the foundation. We will work in coordination with your contractor to ensure the proper dimensions and placement of beam pockets in your foundation.

  • Access to and from sites sometimes requires temporary widening of approaches and/or removal of trees to allow for the size of the building.
